The following measurements will help you determine what size mantel you need:

Width of Your Facing Material (K) =
| Take this number and subtract 1" to determine the opening width that you should order. Subtracting 1" insures that the front of the legs will overlap your facing material by 1/2" on each side, providing a clean finished look. |

*Things to consider - If you have a raised hearth that is the same width as your facing material DO NOT subtract 1". Once you selected the opening width check the finished mantel shelf length and body width to determine if you have enough room to accommodate a mantel at this size. At a minimum you should have no less than 6" of space on each side between the firebox and the inside legs of the mantel. |

Height of Your Facing Material (L) = |
Take this number and subtract 1/2" to determine the opening height that you should order. Subtracting 1/2" insures that the bottom of the breast-board will overlap your facing material, providing a clean finished look. |

*Things to consider - Once you have determined your opening height remember to check the over height to insure that the mantel will be at least 1" taller than your facing material. If you want less height and to cover more of the facing you can bring the inside opening height down, just make sure that you have a minimum of 6" of space between the firebox and the mantel. |

Depth of Your Facing Material (M) = |
This is what is referred to as the "Return Depth". It insures that the outer side of each leg is deep enough so that the front of each leg will overlay the front of your facing material. All mantels automatically come with a 1" return which accommodates up to 3/4" of facing material (we add 1/4" to the facing measurement just in case it is not completely flat). If your facing material is thicker than 3/4" you'll need a deeper return depth. |
