Remove
the scribes from the back of the header (These will attach to the inside
opening of the mantel once it is installed). |

Mantel Assembly: |
| |
|
Attach legs to the header
of mantel with screws provided. Legs should fit perfectly into header
where "biscuit" cuts are located. |
| |

|
| |
Mantel Installation: |
| |
- |
Place mantel against the
wall where you wish to have it installed. With the mantel held against
the wall, draw a line across the top of the mantel, marking the height. |
| |
- |
Find the location of the
studs below the shelf line and mark the location of the studs on the
line. |
| |
- |
Place mantel back against
the wall and using a drill make a hole through the shelf at a 45 degree
angle through the sheetrock and stud.* |
| |
- |
Drive a finishing nail into
each stud. This should hold the mantel firmly to the wall, if not, proceed
to the next step. |
| |
- |
Repeat the same process
as above on each leg using studs at the base of the wall and floor line. |

Scribe Installation: |
| |
Once the mantel installation is done, place the three scribes (attached to the back of the header) along the inside opening of the fireplace mantel and secure with Liquid Nails, finishing nails or wood glue. You should note that there will be a gap between the fireplace facing material (brick, tile, marble or slate) and the mantel legs. The mantel's inside scribe molding is used to cover the gap between the mantel and the facing material. Depending on the thickness of the facing material, this scribe may need to be cut down. Put the scribe molding into position and nail scribe molding to the mantel leg and header. Make sure you keep pressure on the leg when nailing to keep the leg from moving. Helpful hint: Predrill holes in each scribe piece for nails to be fastened into the mantel. |

*If
applying the fireplace mantel to brick, a masonry drill bit may be needed. |
